Brompton Luggage, Accessories and Spares

Luggage

Price

Touring Pannier

Has considerably more capacity than the Cloth Pannier, and a roll-top system with nylon clips for closing. There are two pockets at the back and a divider inside. In addition, there are three elasticated net pockets around the outside, where you can stow the things you need during your ride. Total internal capacity approximately 28 litres

Bag only: £49

Complete with frame & rain cover:  £65

C Bag

A larger messenger-style bag with a Velcro- and buckle-fastened flap. The comfortable padded shoulder strap secures neatly when the bag is fitted to the bike. A multitude of pockets finished with water resistant zips keep those small essentials safe and dry and a bright lining means an end to searching for small items in the dark recesses of your bag. Capacity 22 litres.

Bag only:  £65

Complete with frame & rain cover £80

S Bag

A messenger-style bag which presents a lower profile than the other options, and offers more compartments to store the paraphernalia of modern life. Velcro-fastening tabs keep things dry, with clips as well for the main cover. This is the only front luggage option for the S Type’s lower handlebars, but can also be used on other Bromptons. Capacity 20 litres.

Bag only:  £60

Complete with frame & rain cover £75

Folding Basket

This is the simplest item of luggage - a large, open-top container, ideal for shopping. Its shape is maintained by a simple bracing frame which folds flat for storage. Drainage holes are provided in case of rain. Capacity 24 litres

Bag only:  £21.50

Complete with frame £40

Front Carrier block - needed for the above luggage if not already fitted.

£15
Rack Sack (Fits on rear of bicycle)

With stiffened sides and built-in Velcro straps to secure it, the Rack Sack is purpose-designed for the Brompton rear rack, offering a very secure shower-proof solution. The bag also comes with a shoulder strap.  Capacity 16 litres.

Lighting

Battery Lighting Set

The LED rear lamp with integral reflectors is designed specially for Brompton and gives a good bright light: this stays fixed to the bike. At the front is the neat yet powerful S-son 3-LED lamp, easily removed for folding with a quick-release. Batteries are included.

£40
Tyre Dynamo Lighting

In this modern system, power comes from the AXA HR-traction dynamo, its large pulley minimising losses. Lighting comprises a Basta halogen lamp at the front and the bright Brompton rear stand-light: this stays on for several minutes after you've stopped - a great safety feature.

R version complete with stay £69

L version complete with stay £70.25

E version complete with dynamo brackets £67

Hub-dynamo lighting

Expensive, but beautiful; the Son hub is beautifully engineered, highly efficient, and you can expect years of reliable service. Control is via a switch on the front lamp; otherwise the lamps are the same as for the tyre dynamo system.

Spares

We hold a stock of the most commonly-needed spares and can usually get other parts direct from Brompton within a couple of days.  Click here for diagrams and part numbers of Brompton spares

Specifications for replacement parts:

Chain

The chain must have the correct number of links for a given sprocket combination, as set out below. Bear in mind that traditional joining links are usually unsuitable for use on a Brompton because the pin is too long; instead, the joint should be made by pressing in the rivet pin. We recommend SRAM PC1 (1/8") and PC10 (3/32") chains.

Non-derailleur configurations (1- & 3-speeds)
Size 1/2" x 1/8", max. pin length 8.5mm
98 links on a 50T/13T combination, 96 links on 44T/13T and 44T/14T arrangements.
Derailleur configurations (2- & 6-speeds)
Size 1/2" x 3/32", max. pin length 7.3mm
102 links on a 54T/16T combination, 100 links on a 50T/15T arrangement and 98 links with a 44T/15T set up.

N.B. The rear sprocket size given is that of the larger, inner sprocket.

Rear sprockets

For geared hubs (to ISO 10230)

Non-derailleur configurations (1- & 3-speeds)
1/2" x 13T x 3mm thick (for lower gearing, use a 14T or 15T sprocket)
Derailleur configurations (2- & 6-speeds)
Special Brompton sprockets, 13T and 15T only

Chainset (sometimes called a crankset)

We recommend the Stronglight set specified for the Brompton. If you use an alternative, make sure that it suits the bottom bracket axle (ISO 6695), that it gives the correct chain line (fig. HK4 in the Owner's Manual) and that the end of the crank does not clash with any part of the rear frame when the bicycle is parked.

BB (bottom bracket) cartridge ISO 6695

For C-type: Ritmo S x 127mm (5")
For other models: FAG 119mm (4.7")

Chain tensioner idler sprockets

Non-derailleur configurations (1- & 3-speeds)
10 tooth x 3/32" wide at the teeth, x 1/2" wide at the centre, mounting hole to receive M5 bolt
Derailleur configurations (2- & 6-speeds)
Special flanged Brompton idlers

Brake pads

Alhonga HJ 454-11

Tyres

Size 16" x 13/8", ETRTO 37-349
Inner tube with Schrader valve

We recommend the special high-pressure Brompton tyres but if you cannot obtain these choose another reputable make.

Control cables

The cable routing and terminations are critical. For outer cables, the length and ferrule diameter should be identical to that of the cable originally fitted. For the front brake cable, the outer must be in two parts of the correct length, so that the cable gathering ring occupies the right position in the cable system.

We strongly recommend using cables supplied by BROMPTON; if you have to use cables from another source, specify low friction cables (PTFE coated inner cable, lined outer cable) and make sure that lengths are correct to the nearest 2mm.

Dynamo

AXA HR right hand fitting. Other 6v dynamos are also suitable, but you may need to fit a special slotted stay (available from Brompton).

Front lamp bulb

6 volt x 2.4 watt halogen; take care not to touch the glass when fitting
